SMART Goals

Do you have goals you want to meet and have a hard time with it?

Goals to lose weight, feel better, build strength or just make better choices?

My questions is what are you doing to reach those goals?

It's hard to reach your goals if you don't have a plan.

An easy way to get started with your goals is to outline SMART GOALS.


SMART Goals are...

Specific

Measurable

Attainable/Achievable

Realistic

Timely



Every goal you make should take all of these attributes into account. It's simply not enough to just say you want to lose 10 lbs or gain muscle; you must come up with a plan. Like what muscles do you want to build and how much muscle do you want to gain. Be SPECIFIC


Your goals should also be MEASURABLE such as increasing your arm muscles by 1 inch or adding 5 pounds of lean mass or losing 5 pounds of fat and lowering your body fat percentage by 10%.


It's also important to have ATTAINABLE goals. A goal that is not REALISTIC or given the right TIME frame just leads to frustration and failure. Take your long-term goals and break them down into short-term goals will help withe the timeliness of reaching your goals. If you want to lose 25 pounds start with a short-term goal of 5 pounds. It took you time to put the weight on so it's not all going to come off in one week.


Writing down your goals and even keeping a journal can help you stay on track with goals. Remember you WILL HAVE days that you eat something that you shouldn't or days you don't exercise. Don't let that one meal or day steal your goal. Get back on track and re-evaluate your goals every couple of months. Adjust them as you progress towards them.
