It's Not Just About Weight Loss

If I asked you, "Why are you working out?", what would your answer be? I want to lose X amount of pounds before vacation, I want to fit into my old jeans, I want to look hot? Whatever your answer may be, at least it has got you moving, right? There's more to exercise that just losing weight. At some point the scales may not move. What if you hit a plateau and it takes a bit more time to get those unwanted pounds off than you thought. This is when we have to remind ourselves that there are many reasons we should make exercise a habit.

The American Heart Association recommends at least 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week to improve cardiovascular health. Regular exercise can also improve blood pressure and cholesterol.

Research has linked coronary heart disease, diabetes, and cancer to lifestyle. We all know that exercise can aid in weight loss but, it also allows our bodies to release stress, anxiety and tension, which can help reduce many diseases. Exercise supports mental well-being, improves your mood and frame of mind and gives us a boost of confidence. I always say, we feel good when we feel strong!

As you grow stronger, you will recognize other areas of your life improving. There's no trick or magic diet. It's balance. The more fit you are, the better quality lifestyle you will have. You have one body to live in, so you better take care of it!

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
