Is it okay to have a cheat day?
I personally feel like we need to keep some boundaries with our diet. Those boundaries will vary depending on if you are trying to lose weight or maintain. I am a bit more strict on my diet through the week and then relax a little on the weekend. I still watch my diet and try to keep it in balance and make good choices. If you are depriving yourself of all things you love all week and have one "cheat day" you may go a bit overboard with that one day and end up binging. Try to add foods you really enjoy into your diet. This will help you from feeling deprived from the foods you love. It's about balance. We can get to where we want to go on a faster pace or a slower pace depending on how you walk it out. As you feed your body healthier foods, your body will begin to crave healthy foods. You will also find that you feel better and don't want to blow it on one day of eating everything in sight.
If this is going to be a lifestyle, choose into it now. Don't live your life for the cheat day. Enjoy everyday. I know that special events, parties or vacations come up and you want to enjoy them. Here's my advice. If you want a higher calorie meal than you would normaly eat; plan it, enjoy it and move on. DO NOT BINGE. Psychologically giving yourself a cheat day could possibly allow yourself to think you can eat anything and everything you want in one day and that is not good for the diet, body or mind.
This past weekend I was in Charleston on vacation with my family and some friends. We ate well but kept it in moderation. My husband and I split our meals. We ordered items that we really wanted to try and enjoyed them but didn't feel miserable when we left becasue we split our meals. This journey is called life and it's not about a cheat day but about balance in our day to day lives. Again... PLAN. ENJOY. MOVE ON. DON'T BINGE.
This was from Rita's Grill at Folly Beach. Fried Chicken, Egg, Bacon and Sausage between pancakes! Crazy combination but I had to try it! So my husband and I split it and enjoyed it and didn't leave miserable. We headed out to the beach to play in the ocean and even played a little paddle ball on the beach. This meal was planned and enjoyed!
Our last delicous time together was at Hominy Grill in downtown Charleston.
Enjoy life with good choices. When you're home from vacation,
get back on your routine.
Hit the gym and work it off!
