Bacon Flavored Brussels Sprouts

Can brussels sprouts really taste delicious? YES they can! I've managed to cook them so many different ways until I found one my kids would even like. I came to love brussels sprouts and their nutty flavor several years ago. They are a good source of protein, iron and potassium and offer other benefits as well. A 1/2 cup of brussels sprouts contains about 50% of the daily recommended amount of vitamin C for men and 65% for women along with 2 grams of fiber and protein. Experiment with them in your kitchen. Steam, roast or sauté them for a broad range of flavors.

Bacon Flavored Brussels

These are my son's favorite brussels sprouts. The bacon gives so much flavor!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups brussels sprouts

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 2 or 3 slices of turkey bacon or regular bacon

  • 1 tsp oregano or any other spice you want to add in. Rosemary is wonderful too!

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

Heat the oil until hot and add garlic. When garlic begins to release its wonderful aroma throw in your brussels sprouts. Add your seasonings and sauté for about 5 minutes. Cut the bacon up into pieces and scatter around brussels sprouts. Allow bacon to crisp and continue to stir to allow flavors to blend. Sauté for about 5 more minutes or until brussels sprouts are tender and serve!

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
